Netflix has just released its original series called “Sense8” which is a play on the word “sensate” meaning aware. However, in less than three days after its debut, it has been pirated over 500,000 times.
Bell Media President Mary Ann Turcke says watching U.S. Netflix in Canada by using VPNs is stealing. She said it should be frowned upon. At the Telecom Summit in Toronto, Turcke said “It has to become socially unacceptable to admit to another human being that you are VPNing into U.S. Netflix … like throwing garbage out your car window — you just don’t do it.”
According to a recent study, it looks like Netflix Inc. is starting to beat piracy networks in North America. In the first half of 2015, Netflix has gotten so popular that its internet traffic reached 36%.
Online video streaming favorites like Netflix are biting off a huge chunk of piracy deeds. As Netflix and other streaming services are easy to use and available at low prices, a number of pirates are now losing interest in downloading infringing content – except for several reformed pirates who are bending the rules by illegally accessing content restricted in their country.
