Netflix has just released its original series called “Sense8” which is a play on the word “sensate” meaning aware. However, in less than three days after its debut, it has been pirated over 500,000 times.
On June 5, this futuristic fantasy web TV series was launched with all episodes available in applicable territories. According to one piracy tracking firm, torrent users downloaded the episodes 510,848 times since its debut.
“Sense8” is a 12-episode sci-fi series which comes from Andy and Lana Wachowski, the creators of “The Matrix” series. The cast includes “Lost” alum Naveen Andrews, Daryl Hannah, Brian J. Smith, Tuppence Middleton, Jamie Clayton, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Tina Desai, Doona Bae, Aml Ameen, Max Riemelt, Terrence Mann, Freema Agyeman, Alfonso Herrera, Erendira Ibarra, Adam Shapiro, Ness Bautista and Joe Pantoliano. Representatives from Netflix have not responded to a request for comment yet at the time of publication.
With this new case, will widespread digital distribution ever be protected against online piracy?
